George Demas is a NYC-based actor and writer. In addition to featured roles on network TV and in feature films, he has worked extensively in professional theatre. His work has been seen abroad in London, Dublin, Edinburgh and in Herculaneum, Italy. George has performed in over twenty productions for NYC's Axis Company and was a member of the original New York company of Tony Award winner and MacArthur Fellow David Cromer’s Our Town. His work has been praised by The New York Times and Theatermania.

George has an ongoing curiosity about art and culture in all forms, and from all times: a habit born from some extraordinary teachers. His uncle, Paul Huber, acted on Broadway, including in the original company of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with Kirk Douglas and The Immoralist, James Dean's final appearance on the Broadway stage. Paul's crackling recordings of Hamlet's soliloquies on old 78 records were George's introduction to Shakespeare. As well, George's grandfather continuously read Shakespeare’s works for pleasure, pulling quotes from memory for amusement and, on occasion, to pithily resolve family conflicts. The gifts of these people, and others, gave George a playful love for language at a young age. It also taught him to value humor, in life and work.

George also had the privilege of attending Deerfield Academy, where his interest in the theatre was cultivated by mentor Simon Taylor, a gifted British actor, director and teacher. Mr. Taylor's poetic wit and fisherman's grit fueled George's understanding of the joys and rigors of the stage. In college, George attended The Stella Adler Conservatory, where he studied under Miss Adler, as well as classics under James Tripp, technique with Alice Winston, voice with Tom Oppenheim and physical characterizations with Joan Evans. He received his BFA in Drama from The Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. He was born in Richardson, Texas, grew up in New England, and is a long-time resident of Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. George is married to Rachel Demas, also a writer, and father to 12-year old Claire.
